The Masterbilt Story
First released in June 1931, the original Epiphone Masterbilts made a big impression on musicians from all styles of music and the new Masterbilts have done the same. The original Epiphone Masterbilt catalog made the promise: "The possessor of an EPIPHONE instrument has the assurance that every possible precaution has been taken to build instruments for lifetime performance and pleasure." And that promise still holds true today!
Though modern building techniques may have improved the longevity of your new Epiphone Masterbilt guitar, the fundamental design, materials, and workmanship that made Masterbilts superb instruments are still here and can be heard in the Masterbilt DR-500R, a classic dreadnought style acoustic guitar with the clear and balanced tone, projection, and mellow warmth that comes with solid rosewood back and sides and a solid Sitka Spruce top.
When it comes to acoustic guitar tone and quality, nothing performs better than an all-solid wood instrument. The Epiphone Masterbilt line celebrates the best of Epiphone’s heritage by combining traditional construction methods and features with premium all solid tone woods to bring you a "vintage" instrument that is affordable but durable enough to last a lifetime.
Epiphone luthiers of the 1930s would recognize the unique sound and feel of their original instruments brought to life again in our Masterbilt Acoustic Collection. New Epiphone Masterbilts also benefit from the consistency that climate-controlled factories provide as well as the knowledge we now have about what made those classic instruments sound so good. We put that knowledge into the entire Masterbilt line. While many other guitars in this price class use pressed backs, spliced neck joints and even artificial wood backs and sides, you can be assured that every Masterbilt holds true to our all solid wood promise. We know Epi would be proud to have his name on such a 1st class instrument.Top Material Solid Sitka Spruce

5-A forceful guitar with solid tonewoods and stage-ready electronics.
Takamine's P5JC jumbo cutaway model is loud and forceful, with a resonant solid spruce top with scalloped "X" top bracing for maximum volume, rosewood back and sides, a convenient Venetian cutaway for easy access to the upper reaches of the fingerboard, and elegant ivory body binding with dark wood purfling and abalone rosette.
Built with the performer in mind, the P5J features Takamine's proprietary CT4-DX preamp system and unique Palathetic under-saddle pickup for superior amplified response. The dual-channel CT4-DX provides a four-band EQ, two feedback-reducing notch-filter controls, a flexible dual-pickup mix control (for use when a second pickup is added), volume control and an onboard tuner.
Other performance-enhancing features include Takamine's asymmetrical neck profile - which is slightly thinner on the treble side so that it fits the natural shape of your hand, resulting in a comfortable feel and improved playability. The split bone saddle provides more accurate intonation, while bridge pin positioning optimizes the break angle to improve sustain and presence.
Premium design appointments include a rosewood fingerboard with ivory and abalone "dot-in-dot" inlays, a rosewood headcap, gold tuners with gold buttons, a natural bone nut and gloss natural finish.
The P5JC comes complete with a premium archtop hardshell case.
The two-channel CT4-DX offers the ultimate in preamp flexibility. Used with the Palathetic under-saddle pickup, it offers four-band EQ (low, low mid, high mid, high) and two notch filter controls to reduce feedback.
Add a second pickup (the Takamine Tri-Ax, for example), and the CT4-DX gives you independent control over both pickups, each of which will then have two-band EQ and a notch filter control. You can also alter the mix levels of each of the pickups. Other features include volume control and onboard tuner.
