We have a water cabbage in our small fish pond that multiplies rapidly. Since the pond is so small, we are constantly "harvesting" them to keep them from taking over. They are attractive and look like loose heads of lettuce floating in your pond. Don't know if they flower, but they ressemble big green flowers. The fish like to push them around the pond too. They are supposed to help reduce algae. Do not put these in a large lake or pond - only for contained ponds since they are invasive apparently.

Someone in my neighborhood must be moving out because they've piled a bunch of stuff on the curb. Among the items is a large, light beige couch. I don't know the condition, but thought I'd post in case someone can take it and not have it just get thrown into the dump.

The stuff is piled at the corner of Grove Street & 9th Steet, where those two roads intersect Nalle Street (near the Ronald McDonald House). Here's a link to a google map pinpointing the area.

Shelves have been spoken for. Couch is very comfy and only 4yrs old. Down pillows. 7ft long or so. It is uncovered, but the brand (Rowe) can be fitted with custom slipcovers. Several stains, including some urine pet stains (looks gross, but can be hidden by a slipcover and they are old stains so should not smell). Large tear in one pillow, mended with duct tape currently. I do have an sage green canvas Pottery Barn slipcover available for sale for $40 that covers the couch nicely. The couch does not look right in my new place and my toddler makes a mess of the slipcover on a daily basis.

Pick up from in front of the POD storage container in Waylands Grant (in front of the townhomes). Take 250 W, turn Right on Crozet Ave, Left on Jarman's Gap, Right into Wayland's Grant, immediate left...you will see a POD in front of the first row of townhomes to your left. The couch is in the grass in front of it.

Also a pile of cardboard boxes and about 4 moving blankets in the POD can go for free.

Hi, in the course of doing some site work we more dirt than we need. We have both good quality top soil and compactible fill.

If there is a low spot in your yard filling it in with top soil is a great idea. If you have an area where you need more structural stability-- sidewalks, decks, patios. Then freshly excavated fill is the best option.

Elsewhere on Craigslist, I have offered to sell the dirt for $100 a dump truck load. This does not even cover my costs (especially with the price of fuel for the trucks or the excavators), but it will do me the benefit of getting it off my site. Half loads are $75. But if you have your own equipment, or just want a couple pick-up truck loads you can have the dirt for free.

The typical dumptruck carries 12 cubic yards. I have attached pictures below which illustrate the amount of dirt you would be getting. The smaller pile is 1 cu/ya, the larger pile is 10 cu/ya.

One of my mothers friends has a connection at Quantico Marine Base. He picks up cases upon cases of MRE's (Meals Ready To Eat) and my little brothers take what they want of them and leave the cans.

The cans are really cool. They self-heat (you heard me) and all have pop tops. All you do is pull off the plastic top, pop the metal top off, take the metal stake and shove it as far as it will go into all three holes in the top of the can. After about 3 minutes, the can will be so hot you can't really touch it without getting burned, but the sides of each can are wrapped in insulation so that you can eat it without burning yourself. No cooktop necessary, they're really great for people with no working stove, hiking/camping, elderly with little pocket money (or those whom you don't trust using a stove), or even homeless people (assuming you know any).

UPDATE: This couch has found a family. But don't fret; there are other couches out there, all in need of foster or even forever homes. You'll find one.

This couch has had some good times. It's had some bad times. Now it can have *your* times.

First a tenant abandoned it in a rental house. Along with a cat. The cat peed on the couch. The cat found a new home. The couch was cleaned, more or less. And then it came to live with me, downtown. The frameless, floppy, two-seat couch folds out into a bed, and it served as a resting place for the odd, poor, weary traveller who thought 6" of foam made a reasonable place to sleep. As it did, because we were young and didn't know better.

Being made entirely out of foam and pleather, the couch was occasionally hefted up on shoulders, where it was hauled to the Downtown Mall and sat upon all day, to the delight and confusion of passers-by, where many comic books were read and slices of Sylvia's Pizza consumed.

Years went by.

The couch was moved from apartment to apartment to house, possessed but unused, as it had fallen out of favor due to its superior couch step-sibling, one actually built with a frame and covered in something less likely to adhere awkwardly to exposed skin. Finally it was upended and placed in a spare bedroom in a home in the country, where it has begun its retirement.

It requires very little feeding, no longer needs to go outside, and is basically harmless. It's seen better days, true, but it may have some truly glorious days ahead of it, in the right hands.

Will you come to Stony Point, rescue this couch, and adopt it into your furniture family?

Also, the bound books are kind of heavy, I'm not sure how shipping would work out. There are a total of 18 boxes that are each filled with bound issues of the journal. I have an older honda motor that was used for pumping seal coating material. The pump is part of it as well - not all that familiar with it. It looks ugly - but will run I think. I've never used it - it was just thrown in as part of a deal when I bought a tank. I need the storage space so it's yours for free. If you tell me you are coming out for it - I'll give you directions and it will be sitting at the end of the driveway for you to pick up.

Gas Range/Stove

We have an almond colored, older gas stove we're getting rid of as we are converting to electric. It works fine except for one of the burners (I'm not sure how difficult it would be to fix...I have no idea!)

As stated, it is an older model and could use a good cleaning (with the exception of the oven which has seriously probably never been used;)

I have a La-Z-Boy, bluish/greyish color, that is a bit broken but still works. The lever is broken off, but you can still kick the recliner part out and kick it back in. It's older, so a good cleaning would make it look in much newer shape. Still comfortable, just a bit worn but lots of character. I'll be checking email over the next several hours. Sorry, no pic.
