NAMI Connection is a recovery support group specifically led by and for adults living with mental illness regardless of their diagnosis. One is now forming in the Charlottesville area as another opportunity/option for peer support.

* All meetings are confidential and open to all persons experiencing the challenges (and successes) of coping with mental health issues.

*The group is affiliated with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and is offered free of charge. There is no requirement to join NAMI nor to register in advance.

*Please Note: The Connection group is not a replacement for any professional therapy, counseling, or psychiatric care one may be receiving.

Meetings will be held 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month from 7pm-8:30pm.
The first meeting however will be held Tuesday July 29th 2008. Location: Charlottesville Friends Meeting (side annex) 1104 Forest St.

Have a vintage bike or just prefer casual-paced rides?

I'm looking for folks to ride with, but can't keep up with most bikes on the road. Nelly (a '68 Honda CD175) and I are looking for people with whom to casually cruise VA's scenic byways, or Main Streets. If you own a vintage bike, you are probably aware that unless fully restored, they are all a little finicky sometimes. Mine is slow and finicky. I'm looking for people with patience and an "it could be worse" smile to organize fun rides with. I know the roads, just not the riders.

Hello--
I am a PhD student at UVA. I was diagnosed a few years ago (in my 30's) with "Adult" Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). I have been on medication, but am only now (!!!) beginning to learn about the various types of life organization techniques that can help me (and others) to manage/thrive. Better late than never, I guess.

Are you undergoing--or have you been through--the same or similar challenges? Might you be interested joining/helping to form an informal (and COST-FREE) support group in Charlottesville? Emphasis would be on getting people to share the techniques and resources (i.e., books, websites, local doctors) they have found to be helpful. If enough people wish to participate, I'm sure we can organize informal programs and get local professionals to speak, etc.

I'm interested in starting a Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance group in Charlottesville to meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The only ground rule that I insist on is that all members must be seeing a psychiatrist. I'm amazed that in a town as sophisticated as Charlottesville that there are no depression support groups and want to change that.

Only 7 miles from Pantops, very easy access, The Pony Cafe offers music/horsemanship/art and animal communication among many other things. Kids also explore the art of song writing. We only take 10 to 12 kids each week, and have special dates for you. Tuition basis, paid by the week, which is 60.00 per day.

This will be a great opportunity to make some new friends who also enjoy the winemaking hobby. Our first meeting will introduce "Wine Tasting" to the group. An experienced taster will be on hand to provide tips, hints and strategies on "drinking" and hopefully "spitting".
